Laura, and her sister Nele, represent the importance of connections in church growth and maturity. The Baron family lived in Ecclesall between 2008 and 2009, and Laura and Nele were, and continue to be, an active part of the Uncut community. Laura's home church "CVJM Karlsruhe" were the recent hosts of our Growing Leaders Germany visit, and their expressional outlook on church community is embodied by the releasing of Laura, and another member of the CVJM, Anne Sauter to Peru.
CVJM is the German translation of YMCA, an organisation which has links and centers worldwide. Laura is currently living and serving the ACJ (Spanish for YMCA/CVJM) in Lima, Peru!
She is working with a team of volunteers (see photo below) to spread the love of God and the good news of the Gospel message. The team's work is varied but specifically some of the things Laura does are:
- Works with Lima's street children
- Runs a weekly German course
- Helps out at a weekly Friday youth group
- Visits and works in Lima's Slum areas
- Undertakes weekly Leadership and Bible training
- Attends Spanish school every morning!!
Recent news from Laura:
Laura recently found out that she will be serving the second part of her time in Peru by working in the third largest city in Peru - the northern costal city of Trujillo. She spent a weekend in October visiting the area and she feels that God is giving her an amazing opportunity to work in some unique situations, with unique people. She is relying on Gods strength to provide her and her working partner the ability to make a difference to the city and to the people they will come into contact with, especially looking to setup and continue community events that promote Gods love and Gospel message.
For those of you who know Laura, you won't be suprised to hear that she passed her most recent Spanish exam, and is enjoying learning a completely new language....even with the frustration of communication difficulties!
How Can I support Laura?:
- Pray for the health and safety of her and the group in all they do in Peru.
- Pray for spiritual and education development as she studies Spanish and attends Leadership/Bible training courses.
- Pray that God blesses her and her teams communication skills to enable them to effectively serve during the second part of their year in Peru.
