Acts 1:23-24
Suddenly a sound like the blowing of a violent wind came from heaven and filled the whole house where they were sitting.
Unless the LORD builds the house,
its builders labor in vain.
The disciples have been told by Jesus to wait, and they are waiting. The activists and completer-finishers amongst them must have been having a torrid time. The introverts may well have been enjoying the stillness and quiet in the presence of God, but there would have been a group of people who were desperate to go out and do something.
The author of the classic childrens' book The Little Prince , Antoine de Saint-Exupéry said,
If you want to build a ship, don't drum up people to collect wood and don't assign them tasks and work, but rather teach them to long for the endless immensity of the sea.
Like the disciples, if we want to see God’s will done, our first desire should be for God, not for organizations, programs, strategies to introduce people to God.
